5 Ways to Help Your Indoor Cats Beat the Heat
This March has been nothing but hot! With temperature hitting as high as 34 degrees Celsius, it can be unbearably warm even just by staying still!
With such warm weather stretching on for what-seems-like-forever, it is important to keep in mind that cats are prone to heatstroke just like us humans. But unlike us, they are unable to sweat buckets to cool down. So, extra precautions have to be taken to ensure that our little fluff balls don’t overheat!
Check out 5 simple ways on how you can help your cat escape the merciless, blazing heat in the rest of this article!
Hydration is of top priority!
Ensure that your cat has ample access to a fresh supply of drinking water. As our cats are prone to dehydration and heatstroke, we must always provide them with a readily available water source. Drinking water keeps them well-hydrated and helps them to cool down. Consider adding a few ice cubes for an icy cool treat and to further enhance the cooling effect.
Groom groom away
Maintain good grooming habit to keep your cat’s fur matt and tangle-free. This is due to the fact that matted hair traps heat and makes the already intolerable weather ten times worser! Not only does frequent grooming keeps your cat cool, it also maintains your cat’s fur in top-notch condition and health.
Full-body wipe down
A simple wipe down with a damp towel might just do the trick. Prepare a bucket of cold water and soak the towel in. Wry away excess water and proceed to give your kitty a full wipe from head to tail!
Wet wipes are also a good and easy alternative in assisting your cat to cool down.
Provide a cool retreat
By cool retreat, we mean a well-ventilated space for your cat. Make use of air conditioning, open windows (with grills of course) or use a fan to cool off rooms!
Keep calm and laze on
Active cats that are always on-the-go can get exhausted and dehydrated easily on a hot day. Attempt to keep them calm and collected and use a more relaxed approach for the day.
For overly-curious and inquisitive cats, you can kill two birds with one stone by providing them ice cubes to play with!
Last but not least, car trips are best avoided during this warm period. If needed, remember to never leave your precious furbaby in the car(that goes for even a short period of time)!
